The purpose of the Christian Women’s Job Corps twelve-week program is to serve a diverse population of women and prepare them for employment or higher education. Our preparation for employment and college includes subject-matter expert speakers and partnerships with The Literacy Council of Tyler, TJC, UT Tyler, and Texas College to attain employment or educational goals. The women must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma, GED, or be enrolled in a GED program.
Mission/Vision: Equipping women with job and life skills in a Christ-centered environment.
About: Christian Women’s Job Corps of Tyler began in 1998 by Sandra Mitcham with a vision of helping unemployed women in Smith County secure and keep employment through the Women’s Mission Union Program. In 2001, the CWJC of Tyler was incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)3 and held its first class of six women. Since then, over 1,800 women have completed training and programs. Our 12-week Employment Readiness Program graduates gain computer skills, self-confidence, purpose, direction, and hope for their future.
Volunteer: Volunteers keep our program running. We depend on their expertise, dedication, and knowledge to serve women in our community. There are a variety of roles you can volunteer in. Jobs for Life Teachers and Assistants have the gift of teaching and a passion for sharing how to communicate positively! Computer Teachers and Assistants prepare women for a career with one-on-one assistance. Receptionists are the first point of contact as they answer phones and greet guests. Employment Coaches ideally have HR experience and assist students with technical aspects of job searches. A Kitchen Angel prepares and serves lunch for our students. A Journey Partner is a Christian mentor who supports and prays for students.
